It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Adrienne Rebecca Austin (née Root) on Saturday, 31st January, 2026. She was surrounded by the love of her family, crystals, angels and of course gnomes.
Rebecca was born in North Kilworth, England in 1966, the beloved eldest daughter of Michael and Rachel, and sister to Phillippa.
She came to Canada in 1987 as an Electrical Engineer with ABB, and it was here in Canada where she met her husband Michael Austin from Milton, Ontario. They moved to England in 1993 where they settled in Telford, Shropshire. They married in 1995 and had two amazing children, Jessica in 1996 and Benjamin in 2002.
Then in 2005 the new family of four moved to Milton to begin their Canadian life. Rebecca was a wonderful mother and loved creating a beautiful home for them all, they were always involved in sporting activities and wherever it led them.
Rebecca was a proud baseball Mum, always active and vocal in all their areas of life. She had the most amazing group of friends that soon became her family, they were there at the start and continued to be there throughout her illness.
In her later working life she also enjoyed her time at Freedom Village of Canada, a charity helping troubled youth for a number of years and loved making a difference in the community.
Rebecca also leaves behind her adored nieces and nephews, Camilla, Oliver, Maximus, Caitlan, Emily, and Erin.
In her final chapter Rebecca lived at Extendicare Halton Hills and was surrounded by people who cared for her with extraordinary kindness. They were not just professionals doing their job, they become part of her world. The compassion, dignity and love they showed Rebecca will never be forgotten and from the bottom of our hearts, we thank them for looking after her so beautifully.
To say Rebecca was loving would be an understatement, her love was unconditional and ever flowing, she loved everyone she met without question and was not afraid to tell them. She was truly one of a kind and loved to stand out in a crowd, the first to volunteer her help to a friend or stranger in need.
She was kind, generous, strong, courageous, inspiring and changed the lives of everyone she met. She could find the positive side of every situation and the good in anyone. Rebecca will be profoundly missed and her memory will be cherished forever.
Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.
